Dialogue in this work

Page 1

  • When I was a kid, I had a best friend. We swore we'd be friends forever.
  • Ten years ago, my family moved to America for my parents' work.
  • And now, I've come back to my hometown by myself to enroll in a Japanese high school.
  • My best friend's family runs an inn called "Koijiso," and they've agreed to let me stay in one of the rooms for a while.
  • Reuniting with my best friend after ten years.
  • I should be happy about this, but...
  • I just never imagined that my best friend would be...

Page 2

  • a girl.

Page 3

  • What's up, Eiske? Stop staring.
  • What I didn't count on was...
  • If you wanted a popsicle, you already had one.
  • N-No way... Are you really Kuro? I can't believe it...
  • Here, look.
  • This is the scar I got when I fell in the river a long time ago.
  • that her sense of personal space hasn't changed at all.
  • What am I supposed to say to that...
  • That's right.

Page 4

  • Oh, and as for other proof...
  • I guess there's the fact that whenever we played games, I always won.
  • Is that so...
  • I can't just let that slide.
  • In my memory, I'm pretty sure I was ahead by about 10 wins, wasn't I?
  • Well then, wanna play a match for old time's sake?
  • You're on!

Page 5

  • I said that, but...
  • We're even playing on the same console from back then...!
  • Hey! Why do you keep getting in my way!
  • Well, doing things the other person hates is what gaming is all about.
  • I see.
  • Then I guess this is fair game too, right?
  • What kind of logic is that?!

Page 6

  • Damn it... I'm so distracted by these giant Puyo Puyos...
  • I can't focus on the controls...
  • And more than anything...
  • She's way too close...!

Page 7

  • Ah.
  • Yeah! I win!
  • Damn it... Distracting me like that is cheap...
  • But you said doing things the other person hates is what gaming is all about, right?
  • Don't copy me.
  • This audacious attitude... there's no doubt she's Kuro...
  • But if that's the case, then there's another problem...
  • And that is... she's way too cute—
  • ?

Page 8

  • What if I were to tell Kuro I like her?
  • If I did that...
  • Huh? Gross... Looking at your best friend that way...
  • If I get kicked out of the inn, I won't be able to go to high school in Japan...!
  • If I get kicked out of the inn, I won't be able to go to high school in Japan...!
  • That's why... I can't let myself fall for Kuro—
  • Hey, something on your mind? If you want, you can talk to me about it.
  • Okay, I need to calm down.
  • No, I'm fine... Just need to use the bathroom.
  • Go on, then.
  • Um... I think the bathroom was this way.

Page 9

  • Oh my... This is a problem...
  • Is something wrong, Kuro's mom?
  • Oh, hello, Eiske.
  • Well, you see... we're one ayu short for the kaiseki dinner tonight...
  • You're already letting me stay here, so...
  • If there's anything I can do to help, please let me know.
  • Well then, how about we go catch one?
  • Kuro?!
  • Where did you come from?
  • Oh, thank you.

Page 10

  • You said it yourself. Since you're borrowing a room, you should at least do that much.
  • Damn... you heard that...?
  • So, with that said, let's go!!
  • Right now?!
  • Come on, Eiske, hurry up!
  • When we were little, we used to get through these woods in no time, right?
  • Hey, wait up...
  • I was in New York until yesterday, you know...?

Page 11

  • Ah, we're here, we're here.
  • So this is the place... It hasn't changed at all.
  • Can you really catch ayu that easily?
  • This river isn't managed by the fishing co-op.
  • Just you watch.

Page 12

  • Like this, you pile up rocks where the river is narrow.
  • And you're done once you've made a path to guide them into the basket.
  • Now all that's left is to chase them in from upstream.
  • Okay, you give it a try.
  • L-Like this?
  • No, no.
  • The ayu will just escape if you do it like that.
  • You have to do it more like this.
  • Ah, sorry.
  • She's still the same hyperactive idiot as always...

Page 13

  • There, now we're even.
  • Hey?! I already said I was sorry!
  • That's way more water! We're definitely not even!
  • This means war!
  • Haaah... this is just like old times. It's so nostalgic.
  • I wish you'd realize your body isn't the same as it was back then...
  • Ah.
  • Anyway, if you chase them like this, the ayu will get caught in the net.
  • Then what was all that time we just spent...?

Page 14

  • My clothes are soaked. Maybe I'll go for a quick swim while they dry.
  • Huh?
  • Hey, what are you doing, suddenly taking your clothes off...
  • She... she really hasn't changed at all.
  • To take off her clothes without any hesitation...
  • Just how much does she only see me as a best friend...?!
  • Can I... really hold myself back if this keeps up...?

Page 15

  • Ta-da!
  • I was actually wearing a swimsuit underneath!
  • What do you think? Surprised?

Page 16

  • What am I thinking, having these thoughts about my best friend...?!
  • I can't lose my one and only best friend over a fleeting emotion!
  • You wanna swim too, Eiske?
  • Come on, take it off, take it off.
  • N-No way, I'm not wearing a swimsuit!
  • I don't mind.
  • We used to take baths together at my place back in the day.
  • How long ago was that!

Page 17

  • No, wait a minute...
  • Isn't this a chance to prove that I don't see my best friend that way...?
  • If that's the case, then I have no choice but to swim with her...
  • Just kidding. It's not like we're kids anymore, we're not gonna go skinny dipping in the river.
  • That was close!
  • Oh well. Guess I'll go for a swim by myself.
  • Don't go too far, okay?
  • Don't treat me like a kid.
  • She's such a kid...
  • ...

Page 18

  • Why won't he notice how hard I'm trying to get his attention...?!

Page 19

  • Just like always, Eiske only sees me as a friend...
  • I like him, so I studied up on what guys like just to get closer to him... Where did I go wrong...?
  • He didn't seem to think anything of me in a swimsuit, either.
  • But it would be even worse if he found out I like him and it ruined what we have now...
  • But I still have a chance...
  • We're going to be living together from now on, after all.
  • I'm gonna make Eiske fall for me...!

Page 20

  • Kuro!
  • Eiske...?
  • There's a frog on your butt.
  • Aaaah!

Page 21

  • Get it off, get it off!!
  • O-Okay, just hold still!
  • Hey, where are you touching me?!
  • How am I supposed to get it off without touching you?!
  • Haaah...
  • Haaah...
  • You saved me...
  • But he remembered...
  • ...that I'm scared of frogs.

Page 22

  • The reason you fell and got hurt in the river back then was because of a frog, right?
  • Thanks...
  • You're my best friend. Of course I wouldn't forget.
  • Yeah.
  • I really do love him.
  • Well then, should we head back?
  • Yeah.
  • Let's hop to it.
  • Shut up.
  • Ah, I forgot to bring a change of underwear.
  • H-Hey!

Page 23

  • Damn it...
  • Kuro's gotten so damn cute...
  • And her body's all grown up, too...
  • What am I thinking?
  • If I want to go to high school in Japan, I can't get kicked out of here!
  • Coming in!
  • Whoa?!
  • I'm coming in, Eiske.
  • Shouldn't you say that before you come in...?

Page 24

  • Is that... a pillow?
  • Oh, this?
  • I still haven't talked with you enough, Eiske.
  • So I thought we could sleep together tonight while we catch up on the last ten years.
  • I'm not letting you sleep tonight, so be ready, okay?
  • Don't you go saying that line to anyone else, you hear?
  • Of course I wouldn't.
  • Two best friends, both convinced that saying 'I love you' will destroy their relationship.
  • Their borderline cohabitation begins—!!
